Pack 49 Newletter — May 2007
Lowell Spinners Sleepover
This year’s Lowell Spinners Scout Night Sleepover is scheduled for Saturday, August 16. Reserve the date! We will begin sign-ups at the April pack meeting. Cost will be $30 per person for the sleepover. If you prefer to go to the game only (and miss all the sleepover fun!), tickets are $5 each. Each Pack 49 scout gets a $5 discount per ticket.
For more information, visit the Lowell Spinners web site.
Rocket Launch Update
Last call for attendance at the 2008 Rocket Launch on June 14. Rockets are $15. Scouts receive a cool patch and have a lot of fun watching their rockets disappear into the clouds. Let’s hope it isn’t too windy this year. Checks must be in no later than May 15.
May Open House
This year’s Open House for new scouts will be on Monday, May 19 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. in the School Hall. The Pack could use some help from parents at the event. If you can give the pack a bit of time or would like to provide some baked goods, please contact Membership Coordinator Marilena Dugan.
During the Open House, any scout who wishes to re-register for the 2008–2009 school year may do so. All first, second and third grade scouts who re-register will receive their handbook for next year. That gives you all summer long to work on your rank requirements!
Summertime Events
As you all know, Pack 49 is committed to providing year-round activities for our scouts. During the summer, we don’t have the same schedule we have during the school year, but we try to offer scouts two different events during each month (June, July and August). This year, we could use your help deciding which events to plan for July and August. If you have a new idea for us to try, or you would like to see us repeat some things we’ve done in the past, please contact a committee member with your thoughts and suggestions.
Fishing Derby
Pack 49’s Fishing Derby will be on Sunday, June 8, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Horn Pond in Woburn. A flyer with more information will be going out via email soon. Watch for it!
Canobie Lark Park Scouts Day
On Saturday, June 7, any scout wearing their uniform will be able to buy one admission at regular prices and receive a second admission of equal or lesser value free. Cub Scouts (Boy Scouts, too!) can wear their Class A or Class B uniform. Girl Scouts need to wear their sash or vest. Passes are valid on that day only and cannot be combined with any other offers.
Memorial Day Parade
This year, Pack 49 will be participating in the Tewksbury Memorial Day Parade. All participating scouts must wear their Class A uniform, including neckerchief. In order for Tigers to participate, their Adult Partners must march in the parade with them. More information will be available soon.
Pack 49 Committee
The next Pack Committee meeting will be on Sunday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Blessed Joseph Gerard Room (coffee and donut room). As always, all Pack 49 adults (leaders, parents, grandparents, etc.) are welcome to attend. Bring your ideas and comments, or just observe.
Scouting for Food Update
This past winter, many units joined in the Scouting for Food service project and demonstrated the spirit of our local scouts. Eighteen units, representing nearly every town in the Greater Lowell District, participated to collect over 5000 food items (over ½ ton!), aid a dozen local agencies and ultimately make a real difference. For many local communities, in the current economy, this was the difference between food on the table and hunger.
