Pack 49 Newletter — August 2008

Registration Night

This fall, we will be offering another night for returning scouts to re-register for this school year.  On Monday, September 8, beginning at 6:30 pm, parents of returning scouts can complete paperwork for another year of fun with Pack 49.  If you registered for the first time in the spring, or you re-registered in the spring, you do not need to attend.

We are hoping to have sign-up sheets available for Pack t-shirts, the Battleship Cove Sleepover and the Camp 40 Acres Campout.

At the same time, we will be conducting an Information and Registration Night for New Scouts.  If you know of any boys in grades 1 through 5 who may be interested in finding out more about scouting, feel free to point him in our direction!

Summertime Award

Throughout the summer, Pack 49 put on several fun events offering a variety of activities for our scouts.  In June, we had our Annual Fishing Derby and our fabulous School’s Out Cookout.  In July, we tested the Minuteman Bike Path in Bedford at our first Bike Hike. We also laughed and ate lots of popcorn at our Movie Night. While the world watched the Beijing Olympics in August, we had our own Scout Olympics, complete with “medals” in each division. And finally, over 120 scouts, family members and friends enjoyed another great Spinners game.  (Some folks were even brave enough to “sleep” over!)

With all these great opportunities to participate in the Pack Summertime events, this year, twenty-five scouts have earned the National Summertime Award!  (If you remember, a scout has to attend at least one event in each of the three summer months in order to qualify.)

The following scouts will be presented their pins at the next pack meeting:

  • Den 1:  Ricky, Andrew, Jared, Jason
  • Den 2: Nick, Mathew, Chris
  • Den 5: Brandon, Dylan, Patrick, Richard, Damian, Alex, Danny
  • Den 7-8: James, Kyle, Steven
  • Den 10: Seth, Michael
  • Den 11: Bradley
  • Den 15: Brad, Cameron, Connor, Cole
  • New Scout: Eli

In addition, this year, one scout in the pack is receiving special recognition for attending all six Pack Summertime Events.  Bradley Denis, Den 15, fished, ate hot dogs, biked, watched a movie, threw a javelin and caught a foul ball this summer.  Next year, you can too!

Greater Lowell District Summer Day Camp

Several boys from Pack 49 just completed a fun week at camp, including archery, swimming, BB’s, crafts, science, games, first aid training and many other exciting things.  Additionally, they all got a huge jump on their requirements for this upcoming year.  (The Bears, for instance, have finished about 25% of their rank requirements!)  Next time you see any of these boys, ask them about their week as Superheroes! (Da Da Da Duh Whoosh!!)

  • Wolves: Ricky, Matthew, Mathew, Joshua
  • Bears: Nick, Joe , Bradle, Seth, Cameron
  • Webelos I: Richard, Damian, Alex, Danny, Josh
  • Webelos II: Jimmy, Justin, Robert, Steven, Kyle

The Greater Lowell Day Camp is also grateful for the help provided by staffers Ann Marie Boucher, Karen Denis, Marilena Dugan and George Snyder and Den Escorts Doriana Aronson, Keith Brooks, Charity Legvold, Tracy Pazyra, and Mike Puleo.

Popcorn

You probably received your popcorn flyer in the mail this week.  Although the pack hasn’t started their sale yet, any scout who wishes to can start selling to family, friends and neighbors using the form you received.  Our September Pack Meeting will be our official popcorn sale kick-off.  More details about the fun things we have planned will be available soon!
